Defensive errors proved costly for WKU Soccer Sunday as the Hilltoppers fell to Samford 2-0.
The Bulldogs scored their first goal in the seventh minute after WKU’s slow transition defense allowed junior forward Sam De Luca to get a shot off in front of the goal.
Samford’s second goal started with a faulty clearance by the Hilltopper defense that stayed inside the box and allowed sophomore forward Becca Koenig a rebound shot, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
The Hilltoppers ended the game with six shots, only one being on target, limiting their opportunities to tie the game.
The loss drops WKU to 3-4 in the season and 1-3 in road games.
WKU Soccer returns to action Thursday as they face Austin Peay at home. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m..
