Vanderbilt swept WKU Volleyball Tuesday night in Diddle Arena. It was a back-and-forth battle, with each set being decided by four points or less.
The Hilltoppers struggled from the service line, committing fourteen service errors.
“The difference in the match was from the service line. We either served the ball or jacked it out of bounds by 12 feet,” Head Coach Travis Hudson said.
It was a balanced attack for the Hilltoppers, with four WKU hitters finishing the match with five or more kills. Sophomore outside hitter Alivia Skidmore led the way with eight kills.
Set One
Neither team wanted to give in, trading points back and forth. Vanderbilt was able to take advantage of multiple errors from the Hilltoppers late in the set. A service error from WKU gave the Commodores a 25-22 set win.
Set Two
Much like set one, neither team could pull away early. Three service aces from junior outside hitter Kamryn Chaney gave Vanderbilt a slim 20-16 lead. The Commodores found an answer for every Hilltopper attack, taking the set 25-21.
Set Three
Vanderbilt continued to find the floor, with no answer from WKU. The Commodores controlled most of the set, maintaining the lead. The Hilltoppers looked to prolong the match going on a 3-0 run 24-23. However, a kill from the Commodores put the set and match away 25-23.
