WKU Women’s Tennis traveled to Austin Peay State University to compete in the APSU Fall Tournament, where the Lady Toppers took home seven wins, four in doubles and three in singles.
The participating teams in the tournament were WKU, Austin Peay, and Murray State.
DAY ONE
The Lady Toppers opened the tournament with juniors Andra Sirbu Emily Schut against APSU’s Luca Bohlen and Pauline Bruns. Sirbu and Schut fell to Bohlen and Bruns 4-6.
Senior Elizabeth Sobieski and sophomore Isabelle Einess paired against APSU’s Sophia Baranova and Katie Oliver. The two lost the match to Baranova and Oliver 4-6.
Freshman Barbara Olvera and junior Ariadna Fernandez finished the matches against APSU’s Clemence Butavand and Elena Thiel. Despite an early lead for Butavand and Thiel at 1-5, Olvera and Fernandez rallied back to win the match 7-5.
The remaining matches were cancelled due to inclement weather.
DAY TWO
The Lady Toppers split the six matches they started the day with in singles against APSU. Einess, Sobieski, and Fernandez triumphed over the Governors..
The day continued with doubles matches against Murray State. WKU took all three matches. Olvera found a new partner in freshman Virginia Madueño. Sirbu and Schut returned as a pair. Einess and Sobieski also returned as a pair, coming off their solo wins.
The Hilltoppers finished the day in singles against the Racers, where they once again split. Olvera swept Murray State’s Rebecca Widan 8-0. Sobieski and Fernandez also took home wins for the tournament.
Day three of the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Lady Toppers continue the action Oct. 10, traveling to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational
