A monster performance from senior running back La’vell Wright powered WKU Football to a 27-22 victory over the Missouri State Bears.
Wright led the ground game for the second straight week, rushing for 91 yards, the most for a Hilltopper running back this season, adding 2 touchdowns.
The Hilltoppers finished with 159 yards on the ground, their third game of the season with over 100 rushing yards.
The Hilltoppers again came from behind, trailing 16-10 midway through the third quarter. McIvor and the offense responded, engineering a 12-play, 75-yard drive to retake the lead, which they held for the rest of the game.
Senior quarterback Maverick McIvor returned to form, throwing for 317 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide Receiver Matthew Henry continued to be the number one target in the passing game with 5 catches for 73 yards.
Sophomore tight end Noah Meyers followed up his 81-yard performance against Nevada with 68 yards and a touchdown.
The win moves the Hilltoppers to 4-1 on the season, their second straight win. This is the first 4-1 start in the Helton era, and the first since the 2015 season.
WKU continues its road trip with a trip to Newark to play the Delaware Blue Hens on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
