WKU Football honored former quarterback Brandon Doughty at halftime of its Tuesday night matchup against FIU.
Doughty played five seasons at WKU from 2011 to 2015. He was a part of a Hilltopper team that went to three bowl games, leading them to back-to-back bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015 as a starter. After leading the conference in interceptions in 2013, he went on to lead the nation in passing yards and passing touchdowns in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Along with WKU Volleyball Head Coach Travis Hudson and senior setter Jessica Lucas, Doughty was honored for his induction into the Conference USA Hall of Fame 2025 class.
“It’s a complete honor,” Doughty said. “I’m blessed beyond all means. I can only give Christ the glory for everything he’s done. I’m honored to be here, belonging to such a special place for me.”
Doughty didn’t cement himself as the main starter until he was a junior in week four of the 2013 season, gaining control of the job after throwing five touchdowns and eight interceptions through three weeks. He finished the year throwing for 2,857 yards, 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions with two 300-yard passing games.
In 2014, Doughty came in as the full-time starter, throwing for 4,830 yards, 49 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while leading WKU to average 44.4 points per game. Doughty threw for five touchdowns in five of the Hilltoppers’ games that season.
That same season, Doughty threw for 491 yards, eight touchdowns and completed the game-winning two-point conversion to beat former conference opponent Marshall in a 67-66 thriller. He led the Hilltoppers to their first and only AP Top-25 ranking, coming in at 24, and led WKU to three straight bowl wins. Doughty received MVP honors in the 2014 Bahamas Bowl.
“It was probably the most pivotal moment in my career at Western was the 2014 Marshall game,” Doughty said. “On the bus ride, right tackle Cam Clements told me that the DBs were like, ‘they better run the ball.’ That led to us having confidence to say, ‘Hey, we can do whatever we want to these guys.’
Doughty followed his 2014 campaign with 5,055 yards, 48 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2015. The Hilltoppers ranked third in the nation in points per game with 44.3 in 2015.
The success can be tied to former head coach Jeff Brohm, who was 30-10 in his three years on the hill before leaving to be the head coach at Purdue.
Doughty now lives with his wife and two kids in Sellersburg, Indiana. The South Florida native says he still keeps up with WKU Football and talks regularly with Head Coach Tyson Helton.
