WKU Women’s Basketball couldn’t find a rhythm Saturday against the Longwood Lancers in its 80-42 road loss in Farmville, Virginia.
The Lady Topper’s had opportunities to make a dent in the lead but struggled to capitalize, shooting 1-21 from three and 16-57 from the floor. Redshirt sophomore forward Tatum Boettjer, who led WKU against KSU with six three’s, shot 0-7, all from three.
The starting lineup as a whole struggled, scoring just 11 points total off 4-30 shooting. No WKU starter made a three. Sophomore forward Torri James led the starters with seven points, followed by senior forward Zsofia Telegdy, who scored the other four points from starters.
A 7-0 Lancer scoring run to open regulation, made possible by three WKU turnovers, made way for a 16-6 lead to end the first quarter. WKU finished the quarter with 10 turnovers. WKU’s 2-14 shooting from the field in the period set the tone for the 38-point defeat.
Freshman guard Enni Ahervuo hit WKU’s first 3-pointer with 1:02 to play in regulation, saving the Lady Toppers from going without a three for the first time since 2016. Senior forward Jeniffer Silva led the team in scoring with 12 points.
Sophomore guard Salma Khedr, who saw elevated action against KSU and finished that game with 11 points, was the second leading scorer for WKU with 10. Khedr matched her career high in minutes with 22.
The Lady Topper bench continued to be a large part of their offensive production, with 31 points coming from outside of the starting lineup. Forty-two of WKU’s 81 points against KSU also came from the bench.
WKU Women’s Basketball will look to bounce back against Wichita State Nov. 11 in Diddle Arena at 6:30 CT.
