WKU looks to win its third straight game as it hosts rival Middle Tennessee for senior day in the 100 miles of hate rivalry at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
The Hilltoppers are riding the momentum of a 35-13 win over New Mexico State at home, bringing their record to 7-2, 5-1 Conference USA, on the season.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr. threw for 301 yards and 4 touchdowns with just one interception, earning CUSA freshman of the week honors for the performance. Redshirt senior punter Cole Maynard earned the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week.
The WKU defense put together arguably its best performance of the season, holding the Aggies to just 176 yards of offense.
Tyson Helton’s motto has been “What you do in November, they remember.” The Hilltoppers have dominated in November during the Helton era, going 18-6.
Middle Tennessee has struggled this season, sitting at 1-8, 0-5 CUSA. The Blue Raiders fell at home to FIU last week, 56-30.
“They’re a gritty football team, they’ve been in five one-score games, so you can’t underestimate your opponent,” Co-Defensive Coordinator Davis Merritt said. “You’ve got to show up every day.”
Sophomore running back Jekail Middlebrook has put together a solid season in his second year, rushing for 551 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Blue Raiders are 11th in scoring at 20.1 points per game and 11th in scoring defense, allowing 32.0 points per game.
Saturday’s game will be senior day for the Hilltoppers, honoring 30 players and their families.
“This team has been really special for me,” Head Coach Tyson Helton said. “Even though it’s senior day out there, it’s not the end. But we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Kickoff is set for 2:30 CT, and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
