WKU Women’s Basketball look to will ride the momentum from its comeback win against Wichita State Tuesday into another home game Friday night against Indiana State.
The Lady Toppers persevered through a 15-point deficit and an overtime period to defeat the WSU Shockers 73-71.
Four Lady Toppers posted double-digit performances against the Shockers. Senior guard Tia Shelling scored a career-high 20 points on 3-4 three-point shooting. Senior forward Jeniffer Silva recorded her first career double-double, posting career-highs in points, 17 and rebounds, 10. Sophomore forward Torri James scored a career-high 16 points, 12 of which were free-throws. Senior forward Zsofia Telegdy posted 12 points, shooting 4-7 from the field.
WKU showed greater control of the ball against WSU, an area in which the Lady Toppers are continually improving, Head Coach Greg Collins said. WKU turned the ball over just 17 times versus WSU compared to 30 times against Longwood.
“We had 11 turnovers ahead of (half) time. We had… six turnovers in the entire second half and overtime,” Collins said. “That’s what we’re learning.”
The Lady Toppers will be indefinitely without sophomore guard Trinity Rowe, who suffered a left-hand injury last week, WKU Athletics announced.
Indiana State also looks to keep the ball rolling in Friday’s matchup. The Sycamores are coming off a 90-69 home-opening win over Eastern Illinois in which three players posted double-digit performances.
The Lady Toppers last faced the Sycamores in the 2024-25 season-opener, securing a 71-59 win on the road.
Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
