A fourth-quarter rally from Indiana State handed WKU Women’s Basketball its first home loss of the season Friday night.
Despite sophomore guard Salma Khedr tying the game at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Toppers never led in the fourth quarter. The Sycamores opened the fourth quarter with a 5-0 scoring run and never looked back, defeating the Lady Toppers 65-60.
“They made shots. They got rebounds. We missed shots. We didn’t rebound,” Head Coach Greg Collins said of WKU’s fourth-quarter performance.
Ahead of the final period, the game saw multiple scoring runs and lead changes. The neck-and-neck competition was tied 13-13 after the first quarter and 50-50 after the third quarter. WKU took a 44-35 lead during the third quarter, its largest of the night.
The Lady Toppers struggled on the board against the Sycamores, an area in which they normally excel. ISU’s 46 rebounds bested WKU’s 32.
“We let them get a lot of offensive rebounds because we didn’t box out right. And if we did (box out right), we weren’t aggressive enough,” Khedr said.
Despite the loss, Khedr scored a career-high 24 points, shooting 8-13 from the field and 7-7 from the free-throw line. The sophomore played in all but one minute of the game.
“She was a solid force tonight,” Collins said.
The Lady Toppers will return to Diddle Arena Nov. 19 to face Vanderbilt.
