WKU Men’s Basketball snapped a two-game losing streak, defeating the Wichita State Shockers 75-70. The Hilltoppers leave Battle 4 Atlantis 1-2, moving to 5-2 on the year.
Freshman guard Armelo Boone led the Hilltoppers with a career-high 22 points. Redshirt sophomore guard Teagan Moore, and senior forward Grant Newell both tacked on 18.
The Hilltoppers had a comfortable nine point lead, with just two minutes left in the game. Wichita State quickly erased the deficit, going on a 7-0 run.
With a chance to tie it, senior guard Cam Haffner came up with a steal for WKU with 38 seconds left to seal the game.
Despite being outrebounded by the Shockers 42-36, the Hilltoppers offense continued to roll like much of the tournament. WKU shot 42% from the floor, and 35% from three point range.
Boone came up huge for the Hilltoppers, scoring 12 straight points heading into halftime to give WKU all of the momentum 33-29.
Both teams continued to battle in the second half, seemingly unable to miss.
A 9-0 run by the Hilltoppers led by Newell and Moore would give WKU all of the momentum they needed to leave the Bahamas with a win.
The Hilltoppers will open December play hosting the Evansville Aces at Diddle Arena on Saturday, Dec. 6.
