WKU Women’s Basketball gave up a six-point lead in the last two minutes of the game, falling 59-58 against the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.
In a game where the Lady Toppers led for the majority of the game, the Mocs used a 34-point second half to climb back and complete the comeback.
With 1.5 seconds of regulation left, junior guard Caia Elisaldez solidified a Mocs victory, finishing on a contact foul and capitalizing from the charity stripe. WKU only trailed the Mocs once before the final minutes of the game.
The Lady Toppers led the charge with a staggering first-half performance. From the opening tipoff, the Hilltoppers flourished on shot production, shooting 52% from the floor and 56% from beyond the arc. Defensively, WKU matched its high-quality offense, recording five steals and one block.
Sophomore guard Trinity Rowe scored a season high of 13 points in the first half. The elusive guard’s off-ball and on-ball contributions established WKU’s early momentum and comfortable first-half lead. Rowe finished the game with 16 points, four assists, and shot 57% from beyond the arc.
Rowe joined sophomore forward Torri James as the leading scorers for the Lady Toppers. James scored 17 points on 8-10 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Mocs clawed their way back from a 13-point deficit in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Toppers 15-9 in the third period.
UTC’s offense excelled in the fourth quarter, scoring another 19 points to hand the Lady Toppers their seventh loss.
WKU will look to rebound as they travel to Jacksonville, Alabama, to face Jacksonville State on Friday, Jan 2nd.
