A 3-pointer from Tulsa guard Myles Barnstable with one second left sunk WKU Men’s Basketball, falling 82-81 to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Grant Newell did everything he could, totaling a season-high 28 points and 9 rebounds to lead the scoring for the Hilltoppers.
Armelo Boone totaled 16 points and 12 rebounds, and sophomore guard Teagan Moore added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Senior guard Cam Haffner hit a go-ahead three-pointer to give the Hilltoppers a one-point lead with 29 seconds left, and free throws from Boone and Newell extended the lead to two points before the game ended with three.
The Hilltoppers led for 82% of the game, and by as much as 10 points. The Golden Hurricane’s largest lead was two points.
A strong first half from the Hilltopper defense fell apart, giving up 52 points to the Golden Hurricane offense in the second period.
The hot three-point shooting continued for the Hilltoppers, shooting 41% from behind the arc following a 42% performance against Campbellsville.
The loss dropped the Hilltoppers to 7-4 on the season. A rebound is the goal as the Hilltoppers head to Jacksonville, Alabama, to open conference play against Jacksonville State.
