WKU Women’s Basketball will face Sam Houston on the road Thursday night following a bounce-back home win over the University of Texas at El Paso Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Toppers defeated the Miners 68-59, improving to 5-10 on the season and 1-3 in Conference USA. The win ended a four-game losing streak.
Against UTEP, four Lady Toppers scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Salma Khedr led the way with 18, followed by sophomore guard Trinity Rowe (13), graduate forward Caleigh-Rose West (11) and senior forward Zsofia Telegdy (10).
Along with efficient scoring, WKU also outrebounded UTEP 41-39. In their previous game against New Mexico State, the Lady Toppers gave up 41 rebounds yet only secured 15.
“When you’re… (coming) off a game where you give an opponent more offensive rebounds than you get in total rebounds, you don’t feel real great about that,” Head Coach Greg Collins said. “The girls responded…. There’s no magic. It’s just about guts, grit, pride, relentlessness.”
Telegdy leads WKU in scoring, averaging 9.7 points per game. Sophomore guard Torri James is averaging a team-high 4.7 rebounds per game.
Sam Houston is ranked first in CUSA after a 73-65 overtime win at Delaware Saturday afternoon. The Bearkats (10-4, 3-0 CUSA) have accumulated a winning streak of five.
The Bearkats are led by senior guard Fanta Kone, who averages 12.6 points (13th in CUSA), five assists (leads CUSA) and 3.8 steals (second in CUSA) per game.
WKU leads the all-time series against Sam Houston 3-1.
Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
