WKU Women’s Basketball stays on the road to face Louisiana Tech Saturday night following a setback loss to Sam Houston Thursday night.
The Lady Toppers fell to the Bearkats 50-38, dropping WKU’s record to 5-11 on the season and 1-4 in Conference USA. Sam Houston’s intense defense prevented WKU’s offense from establishing any rhythm, forcing 33 turnovers from the Lady Toppers.
“We’re just not good decision makers,” Head Coach Greg Collins said. “Our fundamentals aren’t there to play with that kind of pressure defense.”
Sophomore guard Trinity Rowe and senior forward Zsofia Telegdy were the only Lady Toppers to score in double figures, each totaling 11 points. Telegdy remains as WKU’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
LA Tech improved to 10-5 (3-1 CUSA) after a 61-48 home win over Middle Tennessee Thursday evening, their third straight win. The Lady Techsters were ranked as the preseason favorite to win Conference USA by CUSA head coaches, but currently sit at fourth place in the standings.
Sophomore guard Paris Bradley was voted CUSA Preseason Player of the Year. Bradley leads the Lady Techsters in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game. Sophomore forward Jordan Marshall adds a one-two punch, averaging 12.9 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game.
The Lady Techsters marginally lead the all-time series over the Lady Toppers 29-28. WKU won both games against Louisiana Tech last season.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, and the game can be streamed on ESPN+.
