WKU Women’s Basketball had no answers for Louisiana Tech’s offense, falling 79-65 Saturday afternoon.
LA Tech outmatched WKU’s offense all of regulation, showcasing multiple scoring runs and effective shot production. LA Tech’s success stemmed from its pass-first approach as they concluded regulation with 26 assists.
Both squads flourished offensively, with the Lady Toppers shooting 45% from the field to LA Tech’s 51%, and 40% and 41% respectively from behind the arc.
A lackluster WKU first half resulted in a 41-24 breakaway for LA Tech. After a sluggish start from both squads, LA Tech broke off an 11-1 run to establish a comfortable lead. WKU’s lack of momentum showed early, managing just 13 points to LA Tech’s 21 in the first period.
A 6-0 run for the Lady Toppers cut the deficit down to six, but LA Tech surged ahead offensively, outscoring WKU 20-11 in the second.
Despite switching from man-to-man to a 2-3 zone, WKU’s defense failed to generate stops down the stretch of the game. Five players, including four starters, reached double figures, with elusive guard Alexia Weaver leading the charge with 16.
LA Tech extended its lead in the second half, outscoring WKU 24-19 in the third period, but dropped the fourth 22-14.
Sophomore guard Salma Kheder led WKU with 15 points on 55% shooting from the field. Alongside Kheder, sophomore guard Trinity Rowe contributed a double-digit outing with 14 on 38% shooting from the floor.
The Lady Toppers struggled on the boards against the Techsters, getting outrebounded 37-24. LA Tech’s work on the glass resulted in multiple second-chance opportunities.
The Lady Toppers will return to Diddle Arena to take on Liberty on Thursday Jan, 22.
