WKU Women’s Basketball’s offense laid an egg in their 66–55 loss to the Delaware Blue Hens at Diddle Arena Friday night.
Off a game Thursday night, WKU Women’s Basketball came up sluggish offensively, ultimately ending in a 66-54 defeat at the hands of the Delaware Blue Hens
Poor shooting and offensive miscues plagued the Lady Toppers throughout the contest. WKU finished the game shooting only 35% from the field and an ice‑cold 18% from beyond the arc.
Sophomore guard Trinity Rowe did not dress due to sickness, sophomore forward Torri James exited the contest in the first half and Salma Khedr exited with a concussion during the third quarter.
“That hurts us because Salma is one of our better offensive players at getting to the rim and getting finishes”, Head Coach Greg Collins said.
The Lady Toppers were held scoreless for the first five minutes, falling behind 7-0. Delaware’s offense continued to surge ahead, shooting five threes and ending the period with a scorching 83% mark from behind the arc.
The Lady Toppers’ defense built momentum in the second quarter, securing four steals early to cut the deficit to nine. Lady Toppers’ offense failed to return the favor, shooting 28% from the field and 13% from three.
Sophomore guard Trinity Vance was the backbone of Delaware’s offensive success, shooting a blistering 85% from three and scoring 20 points, all in the first half.
Despite the Lady Toppers outscoring Delaware 17–15 in the third, the Lady Toppers’ scoring barrage withered in the late stretch of the fourth, allowing Delaware to surge ahead for the win.
Freshman guard Enni Ahervo led WKU in scoring, scoring 13 points on a scorching 57% shooting mark.
The Lady Toppers will look to rebound as they head to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
