After being snowed in for a week, WKU Women’s Basketball will travel to Murfreesboro for the ‘100 Miles of Hate’ rivalry against Middle Tennessee State Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Toppers most recently fell to the Delaware Blue Hens 66-55 at home last Friday night. WKU’s defense came up short against Delaware’s effective offense, shooting 48% from the field and 43% from behind the arc.
The Lady Toppers have fallen into a slump, winning just one of their eight conference games, falling to last place in the Conference USA standings.
Sophomore guard Salma Khedr leads the Lady Toppers in scoring, averaging 9.9 points per game. Khedr suffered a concussion against the Blue Hens, limiting her to just 18 minutes. Senior forward Zsofia Telegdy leads WKU in rebounding with 4.8 per game.
Freshman guard Enni Ahervuo played significant minutes against Delaware. Averaging just 10.3 minutes per game, she finished as WKU’s leading scorer with 13 points in 20 minutes.
“I was proud of Enni’s aggression,” Head Coach Greg Collins said.
MTSU ranks second in the conference at 11-9 (6-2 CUSA). MTSU faced Delaware and Liberty last week. The Blue Raiders went 1-1, falling to Delaware 61-48 Thursday evening and defeating Liberty 63-54 on Friday night.
MTSU’s win over Liberty marked the 500th career win for Head Coach Rick Insell, who is in his 20th season with the Blue Raiders.
MTSU freshman guard Blair Baugus was named this week’s CUSA Freshman of the Week after her standout performance against Liberty. She finished with team-highs in points (22) and rebounds (eight) and a career-high six steals. This is the sixth time this season Baugus has earned the award.
The Lady Toppers are 33-45 all-time in the ‘100 Miles of Hate’ rivalry.
