Classes will resume on all WKU campuses on Monday, and while campus conditions have improved, there are still areas where students should exercise caution on their way to class.
Overall, routes that begin and end on campus should be safe. Main routes through campus have been cleared, and every major building has at least one entrance clear and safe for students to use.
The safest direct route up the hill is the sidewalk on Normal Street nearest to campus.
Some high-traffic areas have not been cleared, however. The catwalk, which connects the 4th floor of Grise Hall to the backside of the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center, is still covered in snow, and the staircases leading up to the same area behind Grise are impassable.

Many staircases near the Helm and Cravens Libraries and Music Hall are still dangerous. Students who use these staircases may need to find alternative routes to minimize risk.
Another area that poses some risk is the area behind Snell Hall and the Environmental and Biological Sciences building, facing Chestnut Street. Students walking to campus from Greek life houses on Chestnut Street may want to consider alternate routes or be extra cautious.
Any students who plan to walk on sidewalks not maintained by WKU, such as those who live on College Street, should also be careful if they walk to campus.
The area around the Guthrie Bell Tower and Jody Richards Hall is also a risk. The safest entrance to JRH is the one that faces Normal Street.
Facilities crews have cleared handicap ramps, even in places where staircases are hazardous.
Students should remain vigilant for ice, even on mostly cleared sidewalks, and give themselves extra time to find alternative routes if necessary.
