WKU Men’s Basketball trailed 87-86 with four seconds left in overtime needing a basket to extend its two-game win streak. A broken play led to senior guard Ryan Myers heaving a desperation shot with one second left to no avail.
Then the whistle blew.
Myers went to the free-throw line with the game on the line. Unfazed by the Delaware crowd, Myers hit both free-throws to put the game away for the Hilltoppers 88-87.
It was deja vu for Myers, as he sent the game to overtime. In regulation, the Hilltoppers found themselves down three, 79-76 with five seconds left. A foul on a three point attempt from Myers sent him to the line, tying the game and sending it to overtime.
WKU had all hands on deck with four players in double-digits. Redshirt sophomore guard Teagan Moore continued to be the go-to scorer with 27 points, following a 28 point game in his last outing. Myers had his second best game of the season, with 22 points
WKU has continuously been a second half team this season, and tonight was no exception. The Hilltoppers shot 57.7% from the floor, en route to outscoring the Blue Hens 50-38 in the half.
WKU could not stop Delaware in the first half, allowing the Blue Hens to shoot 45.8% from the floor. Delaware rode their lights out shooting to a 16 point lead in the first half, and a 41-29 lead at halftime.
The Hilltoppers struggled scoring out of the Blue Hens 2-3 zone, being held to 38.5% from the floor in the first half.
Delaware continued to have success in the second half, shooting 60% from the floor. Despite the stellar shooting, five turnovers forced by the Hilltoppers stalled the Blue Hen’s momentum, leading to the Hilltoppers victory.
WKU rides its three-game win streak to Lynchburg to take on the Conference USA leading Liberty Flames on Saturday, Feb. 21.
