WKU Baseball welcomes the Cincinnati Bearcats for a midweek matchup at Nick Denes Field Tuesday.
The Hilltoppers sit at 7-6 after splitting their last weekend series against Indiana 2-2. In the series, WKU was outscored 23-22 and outhit 40-34.
WKU struggled all weekend with runners on base. Throughout the series, the Hilltoppers hit 15-69 with runners on base, with a high of 9-25 in game two. The average dropped even more to 11-53 when runners were in scoring position.Ā
Senior Camden Ross hit 5-13 with four RBI and four walks, being the Hilltoppers’ offensive leader.Ā
On the mound, senior right-hander Gavin Perry had the best outing of the four starters. Perry went five innings, while keeping Indiana to five hits, two walks, and striking out six in game one.Ā
Junior infielder Lane Arroyos continued his on-base streak to 13 this weekend, going 5-13 with five walks and one RBI.Ā
Cincinnati comes into the midweek with an 8-4 record and a 5-3 record on the road. The Bearcats won their weekend series Austin Peay 2-1 after a 10-inning game one win, a 7-1 game two loss and a 3-0 game three win.Ā
Cincinnati is led by sophomore outfielder Derrick Pitts, who is batting .400 with seven RBI and six walks. Against Austin Peay, Pitts went 3-12, brought one run in and walked once.Ā
Redshirt senior Adam Brouwer leads the Bearcats on the mound with a 2.84 ERA, along with his nine strikeouts. Brouwer pitched game three against Austin Peay, going 5.2 innings, limiting them to four hits, one walk and striking out four.Ā
This will mark the 10th meeting between the Hilltoppers and Bearcats, with WKU leading the matchup 8-1. Their most recent meeting was a three-game series at Nick Denes Field Feb. 26-27, where WKU took the series 2-1.
