WKU Softball faces Eastern Kentucky Tuesday evening at the WKU Softball Complex for its first midweek game of the season.
Last weekend, the Hilltoppers set the program records for best start to a season (18-3) and longest winning streak (13) after sweeping Missouri State 3-0 to start their conference schedule. WKU hit .367 on the weekend and outscored Missouri State 18-4.
Three of WKU’s four pitchers saw time in the circle against Missouri State, all of whom rank among the top five Conference USA pitchers in ERA. Most notably, junior right-hander Rylan Smith did not allow an earned run in her 7.2 innings pitched. She leads CUSA in opposing batting average (.136) and ranks fourth in ERA (2.58).Â
Redshirt senior outfielder Jenna Blanton led the Hilltoppers at the plate, hitting .700 and collecting seven hits and three RBI over the weekend. She also hit a walkoff two-RBI single to hand the Hilltoppers their first win against the Bears. She ranks second in CUSA in batting average (.484).
As a team, WKU leads CUSA in batting (.353 average), pitching (2.04 ERA) and fielding (.979).Â
EKU brings an 11-11 overall record into the matchup. The Colonels hosted the EKU Invitational last weekend and posted a 4-1 record.
Junior right-handed pitcher Victoria Byrum and senior catcher Lilly Davis led the Colonels during the EKU Invitational. Byrum posted a 0.45 ERA through 15.2 innings, for which she was awarded the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week. Davis went .538 at the plate and collected 11 RBI.
WKU holds a 15-14 all-time record over EKU. In their last matchup, the Colonels won 5-1 over the Hilltoppers in Feb. 2025.
