WKU Softball looks to extend its three-game winning streak during its Conference USA series at New Mexico State this weekend, March 27-29.
The Hilltoppers are 22-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play after sweeping rival Middle Tennessee State last weekend. The Hilltoppers outscored the Blue Raiders 17-9 across the three games. Junior right-hander Rylan Smith threw WKU’s second no-hitter of the season to lead the Hilltoppers to their 5-0 game-two win.
Redshirt senior outfielder Jenna Blanton leads WKU from the batter’s box. She went 6-9 at the plate against MTSU and ranks third in the conference in batting average (.472).
As a team, the Hilltoppers lead CUSA in batting average (.340) and ERA (2.61).
New Mexico State sits at 16-16 overall and 6-3 in CUSA. The Aggies are 11-8 at home.
NMSU went 2-1 last weekend against Florida International, outscoring the Panthers 20-15 over the series.
Sophomore infielder Tamara Carranza led the Aggies against the Panthers, hitting .700 on the weekend. She hit for the cycle last Friday to open the series, which was NMSU’s first cycle in over 15 years. Her performance earned her this week’s CUSA Player of the Week. On the season, she hits .330 and has collected 30 hits and 16 RBI.
Junior two-way player Faith Aragon anchors both the Aggies’ offense and defense. Her team-high .424 batting average ranks seventh in CUSA, and she leads the conference in strikeouts with 121.
WKU leads the all-time series over NMSU 21-9. The Hilltoppers swept the Aggies in a three-game series last season.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The series will be streamed on ESPN+.
