WKU Softball is back at the WKU Softball Complex this weekend to take on Sam Houston. The Hilltoppers come off a series win against New Mexico State, improving to 24-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
The Hilltoppers are just 6-5 after starting the season 19-3. It is a balanced offensive attack for WKU in the batters box with all starters hitting .275 or better. Redshirt senior Jenna Blanton leads the way hitting .465.
WKU has found success at the plate in the form of home runs. The Hilltoppers have 39 home runs as a team. Junior Maci Masters leads the Hilltoppers with nine.
The pitching staff for the Hilltoppers has also shown up in a huge way, as they combine for a 2.78 ERA on the year. Sophomore Erica Houge is the most used arm for WKU with a 13-3 record and 64 strikeouts.
Sam Houston is on a three-game win streak, most recently sweeping Middle Tennessee State. The Bearkats are 24-15 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
Freshman Sophia Lundstrom leads the way for Sam Houston, hitting .409 on the year. Junior Veronica Harrison is the home run hitter for the Bearkats, with 13 on the season while hitting .352.
Sam Houston is led in the circle by sophomore Tiffany Sanchez with a 9-5 record and 2.53 ERA. Sanchez has 74 strikeouts while allowing 28 runs on the season.
WKU and Sam Houston saw each other four times last season, with three matchups in the regular season and one in the Conference USA tournament. The Bearkats claimed the regular season series 2-1 before the Hilltoppers ended their season in the tournament.
The first two games of the series will be a Thursday double-header at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday’s game is set for 5 p.m.
