WKU Baseball will travel to face the Louisville Cardinals on Tuesday, April 14, at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Hilltoppers enter the midweek matchup 19-17 and 6-9 in Conference USA play after taking two of three games against New Mexico State last weekend.
The series saw highlights for the Hilltoppers, specifically senior second baseman Austin Haller, who went 6-11 with two RBI. Haller was put back at the leadoff spot after sophomore shortstop Reid Howard was taken out of game one with an apparent hand injury sliding into second base.
Batting average leader junior infielder Lane Arroyos saw minimal playing time, suffering a hand injury. In his return in game three, Arroyos knocked in two runs, ending the game going 2-2 with a walk. Arroyos leads WKU with a .354 average and a CUSA-leading 16 doubles.
The Hilltoppers are 3-2 in midweek games but 2-6 on the road. In its last midweek match against Belmont, WKU came back from a 5-0 deficit to win 9-8, powered by two-RBI nights by Howard, Haller and junior third baseman JP Acosta.
Louisville comes into the week with a 20-16 record following a series loss to Stanford.
The Cardinals were outscored 18-12 with a 10-0 game two, giving them their sole victory last weekend.
Louisville hits .317 as a team, with senior infielder Bayram Hot leading the team with a .400 average. Sophomore infielder Tague Davis leads the team in hits (54) and RBI (66) while also having the third most home runs (19) in Division 1 College Baseball.
On the mound, the Cardinals have a 6.55 ERA. Senior left-hander Wyatt Danilowicz leads the team with a 4.28 ERA and 62 strikeouts.
WKU and Louisville met earlier this season on March 24 at Nick Denes Field, where the Hilltoppers won 10-5. The win was backed up with a four-run first and seventh innings, as Louisville starter sophomore right-hander Kian Vorster was run out after not being able to record an out.
However, in their last meeting at Jim Patterson Stadium on April 15 last season, the Cardinals won 5-2. Overall, Louisville leads the head-to-head at Jim Patterson Stadium 14-1 since 2001.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game on the ACC Network.
