Local College Highlights: Cumberland Valley’s Kelly Jekot makes first career start with Villanova, scores 17

  • Former Cumberland Valley star Kelly Jekot made her first collegiate start Friday with Villanova in a 69-52 afternoon win over Seton Hall. Jekot, who scored more than 2,000 points with the Eagles during a career highlighted by three PIAA Class AAAA championships, got the start because of an injury to Jannah Tucker. The freshman responded with a career high 17 points to go along with six rebounds for the Wildcats (7-9, 3-3 Big East). Jekot is averaging 6.1 points and 19.3 minutes per game while appearing in all 16 contests. She’s also averaging 3.7 boards, third on the team.
  • The Messiah wrestling team took a three team sweep at the Whitehill National Duals winning their meetings against Trine University, Williams College and SUNY Cortland. Victor DeFrance (184) had a pin in 1:18 and Nick Havener (285) had a pin in 1:58, while also sweeping all of his bouts for the tournament. Hunter Harris (133) had a pin in 1:41.
