WKU Volleyball players cheer on their teammates after scoring a point during the WKU Volleyball match against University of Arkansas at the E.A Diddle Arena in Bowling Green on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2023.

WKU Volleyball stretched its win streak by defeating Florida International University 3-1 Friday night.  The win keeps them undefeated in C-USA play.

After a very close opening set, won by FIU, the No. 23 team in the country took the other three, growing their win streak to 18 straight games as the C-USA tournament grows closer.

WKU advances to 23-4 on the season.  FIU is the first team to win a set against the Hilltoppers since October 4th.

FIU opened the game winning the first set 25-22.  That’s where half their total game points were.  WKU proceeded to clamp FIU on defense and allowed only 10, 15, and 10 to end the match. From there, WKU averaged 11 kills and had over a .400 percentage twice.

Junior outside hitter Kaylee Cox led the way with 15 kills while freshman middle hitter Izzy Van De Wiele had eight kills and six assists.  Both she and Cox hit over .350% on the night (.375% and .406%)

Redshirt sophomore setter Callie Bauer had a big 32 assists on the night.  Defensive specialist Abby Schaefer had 16 digs.  Redshirt Freshman Logan Grevengoed had nine blocks along with Van De Wiele’s six.

The Hilltoppers will look to sweep FIU as they play their second match tomorrow in E.A. Diddle Arena.
