The Herald is providing live website updates for the 2024 Bowling Green city elections using results from the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office. 6:00 p.m.: Polls have closed in Bowling Green.
6:35 p.m.: Republican State Representative Kevin Jackson has expressed his support for incumbent Mayor Todd Alcott in Alcott’s reelection bid. “I feel good about Todd, he’s worked hard,” Jackson said.
6:42 p.m.: Warren County election returns show Alcott leading the race, getting 55.13% of absentee and early votes compared to Minter’s 44.87%. In-person Election Day results have yet to be reported.
7:07 p.m.: In-person election day votes have begun to be counted. Alcott still leads the race with 54.63% (7,070) of the vote compared to Minter’s 45.37% (5,871).
7:12 p.m.: “I’m waiting for the eggs to hatch before we count them, anything can happen,” Alcott said at his election watch party.
7:23 p.m.: With 15,334 of the votes counted, Alcott still leads 54.11% (8,297) to Minter’s 45.89% (7,037).
7:27 p.m.: “At the top of our local ticket we have the fighter who stands up for equality, who represents transparency in government government, and who’s going to make sure that we, in this moment of growth, are going the right direction: Patti Minter for mayor,” Jeanie Smith, speaker at the Minter election watch party and chair of the Warren County Democratic Party, said.
7:32 p.m.: “We think all precincts are in, our numbers say we’re on top,” Alcott said.
7:36 p.m.: Alcott has given a speech claiming victory.
7:38 p.m.: “And I’ll say this to Patti Minter, you gave one heck of a fight. But we’ve got more,” Alcott said.
7:39 p.m.: According to the Warren County Facebook Live, Alcott leads with 52.23% of the vote compared to Minter’s 47.77%.
7:46 p.m.: Alcott still leads with 52.64% (11,099) of the vote. Minter trails with 47.36% (9,984).
7:54 p.m.: Amendment 2, which would allow public dollars to be allocated to private schools, was not passed according to the Associated Press.
8:02 p.m.: “The AP just projected two minutes ago, amendment two is done. Everybody knows that our public dollars have made our schools, for all these people that bust their rear ends or work with children, your work’s gotten done,” Justin Chaffin, vice-chair of the Warren County Democratic Party, said at Minter’s watch party.
8:17 p.m.: According to Justin Story of the Bowling Green Daily News, Alcott has won reelection with 11,245 votes. Bowling Green City Commission stays the same with Dana Beasely-Brown, Sue Parrigin, Carlos Bailey and Melinda Hill retaining their seats.
8:33 p.m.: Jennifer Kash has won seat on Warren County Public School Board.
9:06 p.m.: Patti Minter addresses supporters at her campaign watch party. “Thank you Bowling Green for this journey, and our work for a better future does not stop here,” Minter said. “Public service is as American as a Corvette. And people who demean that work demean our community and our nation.”
“To our generous volunteers and our generous donors, you poured your heart and your soul into this campaign and I am forever grateful for your dedication,” Minter continued.
