WKU Baseball extended its win streak to 15 Tuesday with a 14-8 win over the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels.
The Hilltoppers improved to a 2-1 record on the road and an overall record of 20-1, which is the best start to a season in Conference USA baseball history according to an X post by CUSA.
Junior Ryan Wideman continued his impressive 2025 season. Wideman went 5-5 with three RBIs, a home run (five) and four stolen bases which matched the program record for a game.
Freshman Reid Howard built on his successful rookie year by going 4-5, with three RBIs and a home run (four).
The Hilltopper pitching staff allowed nine Colonel hits, eight earned runs, 10 walks and 11 strikeouts
WKU opened the scoring in the first inning with a three-run home run by Wideman. The Hilltoppers added to their lead in the second inning with a solo home run by Howard.
EKU responded in the fourth inning with a home run making the score 4-1.
WKU extended its lead in the fifth inning with RBI singles by senior Kyle Hayes, Howard and junior Drew Barragan followed by a two-RBI double by junior Henry Brown, giving the Hilltoppers a 9-1 lead.
The Colonels got three runs back in the fifth inning from a two-RBI double followed by an RBI single, cutting WKUโs lead to 9-4.
The Hilltoppers increased their lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Howard. WKU added another run in the seventh from an RBI single by junior Dalton Fiveash.
The Hilltoppers then added another three runs in the ninth inning with a two-RBI triple by Hayes and a passed ball that scored Hayes making the game 14-4.
EKU got four runs back in the ninth from an RBI single, a wild pitch that scored a runner from third and a two-RBI single, ending the game with a 14-8 score.
WKU Baseball will open Conference USA play against Kennesaw State March 21-23 in a three-game series.
