WKU Softball will face Jacksonville State University on Thursday in the second round of the Conference USA Softball Championship.
The Hilltoppers swept the Gamecocks in a two-game series at home to conclude the regular season, going 7-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two. The wins edged WKU over JSU in the postseason standings, giving them the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.
The Gamecocks defeated Sam Houston State University in an 11-0 run-rule victory in round one of the tournament on Wednesday. JSU got out to an early lead over SHSU and never looked back, scoring in each inning played.
Junior pitcher Jaliyah Holmes led the way for the Gamecock victory in round one, allowing zero runs on five hits and striking out two in her five innings pitched.
The Hilltoppers enter the postseason with a .270 batting average and a 3.15 team ERA.
The first pitch is scheduled for noon on Thursday, May 8, at the WKU Softball Complex. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
