An explosive WKU Soccer offense pushed past the Union Bulldogs in a 5-1 win on Sunday night.
WKU made seven changes to the starting lineup following Thursday’s 2-1 loss to Dayton. Freshmen defender Ansley Rice, midfielder Mackenzie Howard, and sophomore midfielder Ashton Lynam made their first starts of the season.
“I gave some people an opportunity to play that maybe haven’t seen as much playing time, some of it worked, some of it didn’t. But we need our young players to get experience to be ready for conference play, ” Head Coach Jason Neidell said.
Freshman forward McKenna Egan hit the back of the net for her first career goal in her two-goal night.
“She was excellent, she was outstanding,” Coach Neidell said. ”She’s been eager to make those kinds of things happen for us.”
Graduate Danielle Lewin scored in the 74th minute from a free kick passed by sophomore midfielder Torrie Grant-Clavijo. Junior defender Alaina Nugier scored in the 89th minute from a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Alyvia Walls.
The Hilltoppers had 21 shots with 10 on target against the Bulldogs’ five shots.
Junior defender Mia Duncan found freshman midfielder Chloe Roberts for Union’s sole goal in the 34th minute.
WKU Soccer returns to action Thursday to play UAB in Birmingham, kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
