A fortified Dayton defense kept WKU Soccer scoreless in a 1-0 loss on Thursday night at the WKU Soccer Complex.
The Hilltoppers created chances in both halves, combining for five shots, three of which were on target. They failed to break through the Flyers’ line to find the back of the net.
“I thought we played extremely well tonight. I’m actually quite pleased with our effort, our intensity, our focus, the way we’re moving the ball,” Head Coach Jason Neidell said.
The Flyers’ sole goal came in the 33rd minute by sophomore forward Laney Smith after a ground cross from freshman forward Emery Newlin passed through the Hilltopper box.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Hilltoppers played with more energy but failed to make good passes and capitalize on runs made by sophomore midfielder Maggie Bellair and junior midfielder Mia Merrit.
WKU Soccer returns to action Sunday against Union University at the WKU Soccer Complex. Kick off set for 6 p.m.
