WKU Volleyball continues its road trip this weekend, traveling to Tennessee for the ETSU tournament.
The Hilltoppers are coming off the Marquette Invitational, where they split the weekend 1-1. WKU swept then 25th-ranked Dayton 3-0 before falling to tournament host Marquette in a sweep.
The Hilltoppers were led by sophomore outside hitter Alivia Skidmore. Skidmore led the way for WKU in both games, with 14 and 16 kills, respectively.
“We’ve been in season for two weeks. We’ve had five matches. We’ve already had three injuries, a match canceled and a win over a top 25 team,” Head Coach Travis Hudson said.
WKU will take on High Point for the first time in program history on Sept. 12. The Panthers come into the weekend 2-4, most recently losing to Villanova 3-1.
The Hilltoppers take on Eastern Tennessee State University to complete their doubleheader on Friday. ETSU has never taken down WKU in the Travis Hudson era. The Hilltoppers lead the all-time series 7-2.
They complete the tournament on Saturday against Virginia Commonwealth University This will be the first time since 1995 that the Hilltoppers and Rams have been across the net from each other. VCU has won nine of the 13 matches.
“We kind of have a mindset in our program: the moment you give yourself an excuse, the moment you give yourself a reason to lose—that means you just lost,” Hudson said.
