WKU’s annual 100 Miles of Hope Blood Drives returns October 20-22, encouraging donors to step up, give back and showcase their Hilltopper pride through student spirit challenges.
The 100 Miles of Hope Blood Drive is a joint event between WKU and long-time rival Middle Tennessee State University. The winner of the event will be announced on Nov. 15 at Houchens-Smith Stadium following WKU’s matchup against MTSU.
Blood donations will occur at the Preston Center from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. At check-in, donors can list their student organizations to help their group compete for prize packs, according to the WKU Blood Drive website. The student organization that accumulated the most donations will win field pass tickets to the WKU football game on Nov.15, Red Cross goodies and a chance to participate in the fan tunnel.
Clinicians encourage campus and community members to schedule their appointments online; however, walk-in donations are still accepted. All blood types are needed to ensure patients have a reliable supply, according to the American Red Cross.
At check-in, participants will be required to provide a blood donor card, a driver’s license, or two other forms of identification. Participants must be at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds to be eligible, according to the WKU Blood Drive website.
The impact of natural disasters and the nationwide shortage of donors led to a critical blood supply shortage, according to the American Red Cross. All contributions from the blood drive will directly support the American Red Cross.
