With the last week of Conference USA regular season play happening this week, the seedings can be shaken up in favor or against WKU Men’s Basketball.
The Hilltoppers’ quest for the second seed in the tournament is perilous, but obtainable. Sam Houston sits at 13-5 in the conference while WKU is 11-7. The Bearkats must lose their last two games for the Hilltoppers to claim the tiebreaker and the second seed. The Hilltoppers must also win out.
The Hilltoppers sit in third place in the conference with an 11-7 record. Kennesaw State sits right behind WKU at 10-8. The Owls also hold the tiebreaker over WKU as they swept the Hilltoppers.
Jacksonville State is the only other team that can claim a higher seed over the Hilltoppers via tiebreaker, as Jacksonville State won both its matchups. The Gamecocks sit at 9-9 in conference play, and WKU losing out would help them claim a higher seed.
LA Tech and Middle Tennessee State were both swept by WKU in conference play and cannot get a higher seed. Both of those teams sit at 9-9.
Liberty, the current conference one seed, is 16-2 and has outright claimed the conference title for the regular season. The Flames and Bearkats play on Mar. 7 in Lynchburg.
The Hilltoppers final two games are road games against Missouri State and FIU. The Hilltoppers are 3-3 in conference road games but won two consecutive road games in February against Delaware and Liberty. While they can determine they can’t move down with one win, moving up for the two seed will require a little help from the Blue Hens and Flames.
