WKU has announced Derick Strode to be the next director of The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science. 

A four time graduate of WKU, Strode was chosen through The Gatton Academy Search Committee and will serve as Gatton director effective July 13. 

From 2008 to 2021, Strodes was involved in Gatton first as Coordinator of Research, Internships, and Scholarships and later as Assistant Director of Academic Services. 

Outside of Gatton, Strode has helped with strategic vision as director of WKU’s various regional campuses and has been involved in early college and dual credit initiatives. He also served as an admissions counselor and international student advisor.

“As The Gatton Academy continues its tradition as one of the nation’s premier residential programs for gifted and talented high school students, I am confident that Dr. Strode’s experience, vision, and dedication will position the Academy for continued excellence and innovation for its next twenty years,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Bud Fischer in an email to WKU faculty and staff.
