Former WKU soccer player Sarah Gorham has signed a professional contract with the Lidköpings FK of the Swedish Elitettan league.

The Lexington native was a midfielder for the Lady Toppers from 2014 to 2018. Despite a knee injury that put her out for her sophomore season, Gorham made appearances in all but one game of her freshman, junior, and senior years.

Gorham was named WKU’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the year in 2017-18. She finished off her senior season earning two career bests with six goals and 14 points.

“We are incredibly excited for Sarah,” head coach Jason Neidell said in a press release. “This opportunity is a dream come true for her, and it couldn’t happen to a better person. It shows that anything and everything is possible through hard work, passion, and a commitment to excellence – all of which describes Sarah’s character.”

Gorham is third on the list of Lady Toppers to sign with professional teams, along with goalkeepers Nora Abolins and Libby Stout. She makes the first field player to sign a professional contract.

“I am so excited to continue my soccer career overseas,” Gorham said in the release. “This has always been my dream and I am so ready for the challenge. Soccer has always been my safe haven and I cannot wait to start the season with Lidköpings FK and all of my new teammates.”

Gorham is set to begin her professional career with Lidköpings FK in April, when its season begins.
