A data breach impacted 871 former and current WKU employees’ HealthEquity accounts, according to an email sent to all faculty and staff.

The compromised information includes members’ first and last name, social security number and employer/group name.

HealthEquity is a provider in the WKU employee benefits program and offers a health savings account and reimbursement arrangement services. Notification letters were mailed to impacted members on Monday, Dec. 3, describing the breach and suggestions to protect member identities.

If a member did not receive a notification letter, their personal information is not jeopardized, according to the email.

HealthEquity advised all impacted members to enroll in MyIDCare, an identification theft protection service. Additionally, the group created a call center to address all questions members may have.

WKU Human Resources was made aware of a data security incident by Anthem during Thanksgiving break. The incident has been reported to WKU’s cyber security insurer to evaluate further steps.
