Lady Toppers fall to UTEP in final game of season

The Lady Toppers fell in their season-m finale at University of Texas-El Paso, 80-75. It was WKU’s second straight loss.

After nearly completing a comeback at Southern Mississippi on Thursday night, the Lady Toppers looked to bounce back Saturday afternoon. The Lady Toppers led for much of the game, but the Miners took control in the final quarter. 

Senior forward Ivy Brown led the way for the Lady Toppers, tying a career-high 31 points. Senior forward Tashia Brown scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

For the Miners, three players got into double figures. Tamara Seda had 21, while Jordan Alexander and Zuzanna scored 19 points each.

WKU started off sluggish early on, but held a lead after the opening quarter 14-13.

The Lady Toppers would extend their lead to as much as seven in the second, but the Miners closed out the half strong and held a 51-50 lead. 

WKU tied the game with under seven minutes to play, but UTEP was able to hold of the rally. Five free throw makes in the final minute sealed the UTEP win.

The Lady Toppers will look to bounce back after back-to-back losses to finish the season.

WKU will be the second seed in the Conferenc USA tournament in Frisco, Texas, next week. The Lady Toppers will open play at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of the seven seed vs. 10 seed game.
