The Lady Topper (1-2-0) soccer team lost the final game of their season-opening road stretch, 2-1, against Austin Peay (2-1-0) at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field in Clarksville, Tennessee on Friday evening.

The Lady Toppers were able to open the scoring in the second half on a penalty kick from sophomore Chandler Backes, her first such goal as a Lady Topper.

The Lady Govs were able to equalize a few minutes later thanks to a goal from Kirsten Robertson. A penalty kick from Shelby Stewart in the 72nd minute gave Austin Peay what would end up being the decisive margin.

WKU had chances to draw even, but were unable to equalize late.  Shots were fairly even for the match with the Lady Govs having the slight edge 10-9.  Backes and Robertson led the game with four shots apiece for their respective sides.

Senior Allison Leone played all 90 minutes for the Lady Toppers between the posts, notching three saves.

The Lady Toppers will make their home debut against UT Martin Sunday at 1 p.m. at the WKU Soccer Complex. WKU is 2-0 all time against the Skyhawks, and looks to improve upon its 13-3 record in home openers.

Admission is free for all WKU Soccer home matches this season. This Sunday, the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free WKU Soccer magnet, detailing the home schedule.
