Homecoming theme chosen

The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “New Tops on the Block.”

Ginny Hensley, director of Alumni Programming and Homecoming co-chair, said the theme could have numerous interpretations.

“We like to have themes that you can take in a couple of different ways,” she said.

Hensley said the two main themes are references to boy bands of the late 1980s and to WKU’s move to a new athletic conference.

“It’s kind of a reflection on that WKU is moving to Conference USA,” she said. “It’s a new era for us. We are the new kids in this conference.”

A committee of faculty, staff and students narrowed the Homecoming theme ideas to “three or four” out of a pool of 25, with the final decision being made by President Gary Ransdell.

Homecoming week will last from Nov. 3 to Nov. 9, with the Homecoming football game on Nov. 8. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will play the University of Texas at El Paso Miners at Smith Stadium.

Hensley said as Homecoming approaches, more events related to the theme would be determined.
