Proposal seeks to absorb South Campus, Main Campus departments

During a meeting today, Provost Gordon Emslie met with faculty from the department of Liberal Arts and Sciences on South Campus to discuss a potential change for the professors there.

Emslie said a proposal is being worked on that would align the tenured professors of the department with their disciplines on main campus, versus having them in the existing South Campus department.

The department of Liberal Arts and Sciences hosts several academic disciplines, including math, geography and history, and resides exclusively on South Campus. The proposal would absorb this department, and the tenured faculty within it, to their respective main campus departments.

“We thought it would be a good idea to align tenured professors with their specific department,” Emslie said.

The proposal still has to go before the Board of Regents in April before this motion would go into effect.
