WKU notched its 13th straight win and moved to 8-0 in the Sun Belt Conference after sweeping Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon in Diddle Arena (25-17, 25-12, 25-15).

The Lady Toppers have now gone almost a month without losing a set.

Senior Jordyn Skinner said back-to-back home games gave the team a chance to continue improvement. WKU swept Florida International on Friday.

“It’s a chance for us to work on stuff in practice,” Skinner said. “We have to keep our momentum going so we can have that when the conference tournament comes.”

FAU kept the score close for the majority of the first set. The Lady Toppers pulled away with a 4-0 run to lead to an eventual 25-17 opening set win.

Coach Travis Hudson said there was a clear difference in Saturday’s match and Friday’s matchup with FIU.

“We were just a little bit sharper today,” Hudson said. “We really talked a lot after the match last night about trying to hold ourselves accountable to what we’re capable of as opposed to looking at the scoreboard and see how things are going because that doesn’t always tell the story.”

WKU fired off to a 6-0 lead to begin the second frame with the help of two kills from Noelle Langenkamp. The Lady Toppers ended the set on a 5-1 run to take the win 25-12.

At the half, freshman Haley Bodway led the team with eight kills on 10 attempts. Junior Melanie Stutsman had tossed up 24 assists.

FAU stayed in the locker room at the half for only a few minutes, but whatever adjustments they made worked in their favor for a little while at least.

The Owls gave WKU all they could handle during the first half of the third set, jumping out to a 2-0 lead to open the frame.

The Lady Toppers trailed until they took the lead at 7-6.  It was a back and forth battle until WKU went on an 8-0 run at the end of the set to win 25-15, making it the team’s 28th straight set victory.

WKU stays home in Diddle next weekend as they entertain Arkansas State Friday night at 7 pm, followed by a match at noon Saturday during Homecoming against Arkansas-Little Rock.
