WKU Men’s Golf competed in The Hal Williams Collegiate Feb. 13-14 and placed 11th in a field of 15 teams. 

The Hilltoppers sent five golfers to the event in Mobile, Alabama at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. The par for the course was 72. The contest was hosted by South Alabama University. 

Each golfer played three rounds and the Hilltoppers finished with an overall combined score of +6. Illinois University placed first as a team with a combined score of 36-under par. 

Despite placing 11th in the event, the Hilltoppers finished only four strokes behind seventh place, Kent State. 

The field consisted of 84 total golfers. Senior Riley Grindstaff led the Hilltoppers in the rankings as his total 52 hole score tied him for 19th place.

Grindstaff shot back-to-back 70’s in his final two rounds to bring his final three round score to -2 after shooting an even 71 in the first round.

Senior Luke Fuller was right behind Grindstaff as he tied for 22nd place in the field with a total score of -1. Fuller had the best individual first round for the Hilltoppers. Fuller shot a 67, which was four under par. 

Fifth year Landon Carner, Junior Connery Meyer and sophomore Stephen Warren all competed in the event as well. Both Carner and Meyer placed in the top 50 golfers along with Fuller and Grindstaff.

Next, the Hilltoppers will head to St. Simons, Georgia where they will compete in the Sea Palms Invitational March 9-11.
