WKU Women’s Golf finds third place in UNF Intercollegiate

WKU Women’s Golf tied the University of North Florida for third place in the UNF Intercollegiate March 6-7 at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.

The tournament was played at 5964 yards with a par of 72. All 17 teams played 36 holes on the first day of the tournament.

Freshman Sydney Hackett had the low first round for WKU with a 2-under score of 70. Senior Sarah Arnold fired an even par score of 72. Junior Addie Westbrook, who is competing as an individual, also posted a 72.

Three Hilltoppers, sophomore Catie Craig, freshman Averi Cline and fifth year Kenlie Barrett, followed closely behind, all firing a 73 in the first round of the day. Freshman Savannah Howell opened with her best 18 hole score of the tournament with a 76.

As a team, the Hilltoppers posted an even par score of 288 after the first round.

In the second 18 holes, Arnold continued steady play, carding another 72. The even par score secured her a top 15 placement after 36 holes. Arnold also had the low second round score for WKU.

Craig also remained consistent, shooting a 73 in the second half of the day.

WKU put together a 9-over team score of 297 in the second 18 holes to find their place in sixth after the first day.

In the final 18 holes of the tournament, Cline posted a 2-under score of 70. Hackett improved her play by six shots from the prior round to shoot a 72 in the final 18 holes. 

Craig also shot an even par to find herself with a top 15 finish at 2-over for the three rounds. Arnold fired a 75 to finish top 20 in the field.

WKU had a cumulative third round team score of 298. As a team, the Hilltoppers had a three round total of 874 to claim their spot on the leaderboard.

WKU trailed Furman University in second place by 10 strokes. Sam Houston State University took first place at 14-under par for all 52 holes.

The Hilltoppers will continue their season by hosting the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Florida March 13-14.
