The WKU Soccer team huddled up before the game against Marshall Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the WKU Soccer Complex.

For the second time this season, the Lady Toppers were held scoreless Sunday as they drew 0-0 with the Belmont Bruins.  The heat was potentially a factor as the two teams met for a match in 90-degree weather on a hot Sunday afternoon at the WKU Soccer Complex.

“I was pretty pleased with our effort today; it was hot and our second game of the weekend.” Head coach Jason Neidell said. “I thought we started the game on our front foot and put them under a lot of pressure. One of the things we talked to the team about was engaging defensively higher up the field. We forced some turnovers that put us in a good position.”

The Lady Toppers’ defense once again showed up, allowing only three shot attempts by Belmont the entire game. However, WKU was unable to score despite having 14 shot attempts of their own, six of which were on goal.

All three Belmont shots were saved, while WKU had six saves of their own.  Redshirt sophomore Maddie Davis had all three saves for the team, giving her 18 in the last 3 games and 22 on the season.  Despite not having much success on offense, Belmont held strong with goalie Sarah Doyle racking up 6 saves.

The Lady Toppers will look to snap the tie streak as they travel on the road to Evansville, IN to take on the Evansville Aces Thursday, September 7.  WKU is undefeated since 2004 in Evansville with one tie, their last win being a 4-1 victory back in 2018.
