WKU women’s soccer players embrace after a big goal to put Western up two goals against their opponent FIU after their game on March 4, 2021.

For the third straight game and the third time in September, The Lady Toppers finished their match in a 0-0 draw. WKU took on the Evansville Aces on a clear Thursday night at McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Indiana, on Sept. 7.  This game marked the first game played on the road for the Lady Toppers this season.

The Lady Toppers saw themselves in another defensive battle.  Despite only having four shots on goal, this proved to be one of their better defensive matches away from the field as the Aces could only produce five shots and two shots on goal, completely nullifying their offense.  Redshirt sophomore Maddie Davis continued her masterful goalie work, taking down two saves.  She also posted her third straight clean sheet and fourth of the season.

The offensive side, however, wasn’t without effort, as they attempted 11 shots, including six from junior Kayla Meyer.  Most of hers as well as the rest of the team came in the first half, where they recorded eight shots.  Evansville was blanketed on offense but made up for it by defending the onslaught brought on by the Lady Toppers.  Senior goalkeeper Myla Danek had three saves on the night, making it another WKU game where the goalkeepers were the headline.

The Lady Toppers will stay in the Hoosier State and face the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday, Sept. 10.  The last and only meeting between these two teams took place in 2006 with the Boilermakers taking a 4-1 victory.
