Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers women’s soccer team celebrates a 1-0 victory against the University of Kentucky Wildcats Wednesday evening, Sept. 1, 2022, at the WKU Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Lady Toppers traveled to El Paso, Texas to face the UTEP Miners Saturday night, where they were unable to find the back of the net, falling 1-0.

The game was a grudge match.  A stalemate, with the lone goal by UTEP in the 33^rd minute.  WKU outshot UTEP 9-7 and 3-2 in shots on goal, but the UTEP defense racked up more saves.

The Hilltoppers only managed one save in the game.  Despite a valiant effort in the second half, WKU was unable to force a tie, with the Miner’s defense limiting the Hilltoppers opportunities.

This game ends WKU’s unbeaten streak and it marks the first time they’ve been shut out in exactly a month.  This is the team’s first loss in conference play.  The Lady Toppers are 1-1-2 in conference play, placing them sixth in C-USA play.

Conference play will continue as the Lady Toppers return to Bowling Green to host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Thursday at 7 p.m.  LA Tech won the last meeting between the two, but they have never won in Bowling Green.
