WKU Soccer celebrates a goal against the University of Texas at El Paso in a 1-0 win. Sept. 22, 2022.

The Lady Toppers traveled to Huntsville, Texas to take on Sam Houston Oct. 15, where WKU shut out the Bearkats 1-0, claiming another crucial conference win.

“Great weekend for us,” Head Coach Jason Neidell said. “I am really proud of our toughness and grit today. It was a very challenging environment, especially considering we traveled and played two games this weekend while our opponent awaited us fully rested. We talked about seizing moments before the game and that’s exactly what Kayla Meyer did on a spectacular goal inside the box. We are finding our groove, and we are excited about what lays ahead for this group.”

The game was defensive throughout the first half, ending with a 0-0 tie.  The tie was broken in the 70th minute by junior Kayla Meyer.  The goal marked her third of the season.  Freshman Rebecca Roth and Sophomore Anna Isger assisted with the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Davis continues her dominance this season with three saves on all three of Sam Houston’s shots on goal.  This is the teams’ second shutout in a row and eighth of the season.

The Lady Toppers add three points and move to fourth overall in the conference.  They will head to Lynchburg, Virginia on October 21st to take on the Liberty Flames.
