WKU Women’s Basketball will put its five-game winning streak on the line against the UTEP miners on Thursday, Jan. 30 in El Paso, Texas.
The Lady Toppers enter the game in third place in Conference USA with a 5-2 record in conference play. Senior guard Alexis Mead leads the team in scoring, averaging just over 13 points a game.
The dominant defense has continued to ramp up in recent weeks, as the Lady Toppers now rank first in CUSA in steals per game (12.3).
“We’re working on trying to play better defense together,” Head Coach Greg Collins said. “Any one person can play great defense, but if you play great defense together, then you have something special.”
The Lady Toppers offense has also been clicking, leading the CUSA in assists per game (16.8).
“As long we continue to play unselfishly, we should be very hard to guard,” Collins said.
The Lady Toppers will look to avenge a loss last season at UTEP, which broke a five-game winning streak against the Miners.
The Miners come into the game on a skid, losing four of their last five games. The team is led by senior guard Ivane Tensaie, averaging almost 13 points a game. Tensaie leads the CUSA in 3-point percentage (40.2 percent) and made 3-pointers per game (2.83).
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
