The WKU Recreation, Park and Nonprofit Administration program will host a Camp, Recreation and Related Professions Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, in the main lobby of DSU.
The WKU Recreation, Park and Nonprofit Administration program hosts a job fair in the fall and spring semesters, according to a WKU press release. It stated that camp, recreation and related professions’ agencies typically offer a variety of jobs in many different areas.
Raymond Poff, WKU professor and program coordinator for the Recreation, Park and Nonprofit Administration major, said the program has been at WKU since 1967, but not many students know it exists.
Poff said the job fair focuses on the recreation industry and increasing visibility for the academic program. He said the main goal of the job fair is for all students to come out, regardless of their major.
“Lots of these organizations are looking for students with lots of different skill sets,” Poff said. “And like any organization, they need different things, they need different people that need to do different tasks.”
Poff said a wide range of organizations have attended the job fair over the years. He said students could meet representatives of organizations that run park and recreation agencies, camps, water parks, cruise ships, resorts and much more.
“One major, many careers,” Poff said is the “unofficial” slogan the department uses to describe the program.
Attendees can get a job, find out about internship or volunteer opportunities, and see what organizations they could potentially work for.
“Anywhere where you would spend your time or money for recreation or leisure or having fun, there’s probably a career opportunity for our students,” Poff said.
